From the Desk of Intergenerational Ministry – August 2018

Hello, Church Family,

Summer is in full swing, and I pray you are all letting God’s light shine through you everywhere you journey.

What’s been happening:

July had us building Noah’s Ark for the 4th of July parade.  As our many volunteers of adults and children will tell you, it was no easy task.  Some people watching the parade may even tell you that the ark brought on the rains because the moment we started heading down the parade route the rains came.  We had so much fun and look forward to doing this again next year.

July also found us cleaning up the ABC Raceway, which was no easy task either.  Our youth group was able to raise $250.00 for their mission trip to South Dakota.  A day of bagging groceries is their last fundraiser for this trip.  We wish them all the safest and most blessed trip, August 14th – 22nd.  Their trip leaders will be Pastor Deters, Jocelyn Langholz, and Chuck Whiting.

Vacation Bible School is put on by local churches every year.  Churches provide financial
contributions and a day of meals for the counselors. They are thankful to UPCC for helping contribute to this event again this year.  I am told the children who attended had a great time.

Up and coming activities:

Our August is full of fun and adventure, and even some planning for Sunday school.  Everyone take note, I have added a fun picnic at Copper Falls State Park.

August

5th – 10th Camp Horstick in Delta

7th 4:00 pm- Sunday school teachers planning meeting/BBQ to follow

12th After church picnic, hiking, and swimming at Copper Falls

14th – 22nd Youth mission trip  & Camp Horstick

We are happy that some of our young children are heading off to camp again this year.  Please pray for them as they are away from their families sharing and exploring God’s love with others.  All campers are on their own this year for dropping off and picking up their children.

Sunday school teachers planning meeting

I know, summer is barely in full swing, but it is time to start planning for the 2018 – 2019 Sunday school year.  We have many returning teachers, which make me very excited.   This year we will be following the church’s service time change schedule, meaning our open house/registration will be on September 9th, 9:00 am.- 10:30 am.

Copper Falls

This is a new intergenerational event I am adding this year.  I thought it would be fun to have a day out at Copper Falls, hiking, swimming, and eating.  So often we miss out on the beauty that comes with getting to know each other out in God’s beautiful world.  This is purely for fun.  I will be serving up some hot dogs and popcorn for lunch.  I will also have a water jug of water and juice.  Feel free to bring anything else you would like to share: chips, cookies, etc.  Lunch will be served around 12:30 pm.  FYI you will need to purchase a day pass if you do not already have one.  It is $8.00 for WI residents, $3.00 for WI residents over 65.  An annual pass is $28 for WI residents, $13.00 for WI residents over 65.

Youth mission trip

Please pray for our young people as they venture to South Dakota for their mission trip this year.   They leave August 14th and return on August 22nd.  Pastor Deters has worked very hard at putting together an experience that will help them grow deeper in their faith and service to God.

September:

Sunday school

9th 9:00 am Open house and registration

16th 9:00 am First day of Sunday school

26th 2:00 pm 4:00 pm Happy Card Makers

Are you interested?

I am sending out a feeler to see how many people might be interested in going to Moon Beach October 5th -7th. I have been told that all-church camping weekends have happened in that past, and I was curious if there is still an interest.   Moon Beach is offering a fall colors and cranberries retreat this year.

You can go to ucci.org to learn more about the camp. I am told it is a beautiful place. We would love to see at least 20 (adults and kids) interested in going. We are looking into having scholarship money available.  Please let me know as soon as possible so we can register.

God’s Blessings
